@Phil From script to screen - Updated

I have taken your feedback into account and updated the story! What if it begins with the astronaut (in current time) sitting on the ground and collecting said samples, then stops and takes out a pair of scissors he has as a necklace around his neck. He looks longingly at it, then we cut to a flashback of him cutting and styling a doll. His dad walks in and we can see the disappointment in his eyes. He jank the doll from the boys hands, and points from the boy to a poster of an astronaut, as if telling him that that is what he is supposed to become. Then he slams the door. The boy clutches his scissors and cry. Match-cut to the astronaut wiping a tear while holding the same scissors, then tucking it away and continuing his task. I think this could be done while not spending too much time, and would get the point across. I would like to avoid speech though, and believe hand gestures and facial expressions could be enough. What do you think? I worry that the queue would hinder us

She decides to climb down to find out what is down there.  This is a hard journey, but eventually she reaches down to earth. What will she discover?

@Phil From script to screen Idea

After following everyone's expectations his whole life, and despite his childhood dream of becoming a hairstylist, our main character is now an astronaut on a mission to collect samples from a strange planet.  There, the astronaut is welcomed by an apparently peaceful group of people, with long, unruly hair. These creatures are basically blind, as their hair blocks them from seeing anything. What the astronaut does not know, is that every year they sacrifice several inhabitants to their god, by them jumping down into a volcano named “the Restaurant”. (note: the creatures do not understand that they actually die from this, they think they are just going to dine with their gods). The astronaut has landed in the middle of the preparations for this ritual.  People have lined up in front of the entrance. When he realize what is about to happen, he tries to stop them from jumping in, but nobody listens to him. He has an idea. He brings out his scissors that he carries around his nec
